we don't live in the same reality, there is no compromise
where does america go from here?

The weaponization of social concerns by both political parties plays a significant role in stoking the fires of this political division. Talking points center around sociocultural concerns while ignoring more consequential economic and traditionally political issues. For example, a conservative in the United States believes that laws should be enacted to restrict transgender people's ability to exist. They consider the transgender identity something that must and can be challenged within society as well as legislated upon, negotiated upon. In contrast, the subject of transgender rights and transgender persons is essentially political to liberals only because conservatives strive to legislate around the identity, but also because it allows the American liberal something to focus on whilst ignoring the similarities between their economic policies and those of the conservative. They view proposals for compromise on transgender expression to be morally repugnant. To them, the topic of transgender rights should not be compromised on, nor should it be politicized. It's a human rights issue, and the conservatives' call for legislation is intrinsically antagonistic to democratic values and aspirations in the view of the liberal.
In this instance, there is no compromise: conservatives and liberals inhabit alternate realities. If the concept of the issue is fundamentally political to one, and unacceptable to debate on in a political setting to the other, a society will begin to crumble under the weight of the political disillusionment.
